William Joyce's animated 'Rise of the Guardians' already snagging ...

Shreveport author and animator William Joyce's newest film, "Rise of the Guardians," doesn't hit theaters until Nov. 21, but it's already earning awards. The animated movie - based on the children's book series by Joyce, and directed by Peter Ramsey for DreamWorks Animation - will receive the Hollywood Animation Award at the 16th annual Hollywood Film Festival and Film Awards, it has been announced.

Joyce, whose Shreveport-based Moonbot Studios produced the Oscar-winning short film "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore," earns executive-producer and writing credits on the film.

"Rise of the Guardians" joins such films as "Rango," "Ratatoullie," "Toy Story 3," "Up" and "Wall*E" as a recipient of the award, to be handed out Oct. 22 at the festival's gala in Beverly Hills.

Featuring the voices of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law, "Rise of the Guardians" is a fantasy adventure that sees that most benevolent of quintets -- Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost and the Sandman, all more powerful than you probably remember -- joining forces to fight a Bogeyman known as Pitch.
